“You can’t know the meaning of something the day it happens.”
I remember the first time I heard the idea that as humans, we are meaning-making machines. Wow, okay, yes, that makes sense. This has taken on another layer of meaning during a global pandemic when we are all desperate for meaning and can’t find it yet.
I heard the above quote at a community meditation gathering last month and have been pondering on it for a month. It feels relieving and freeing and also like something I need to constantly remember. My worth is not based in me knowing the meaning of something the day it happens.
